When we think about rosacea, we often focus only on what we put on the skin.

But redness-prone skin can also have a strong vascular component — flushing, heat and visible changes in circulation are often part of the picture.

This is where hawthorn catches my attention.

Traditionally used as a cardiovascular herb, hawthorn has an affinity for circulation and is rich in antioxidant plant compounds. From a Hälsa perspective, it’s one of the plants I find interesting when looking at the whole-body context behind red, reactive skin.

Not because one herb “treats” rosacea.

But because skin doesn’t exist in isolation — and sometimes understanding the systems connected to the skin gives us a much bigger picture.

I’m asking, “What are the qualities of this plant — and where else in the body might those same qualities make sense?”

Rose is a beautiful example.

On the skin, I may reach for rose when I’m working with redness, sensitivity, dryness, dullness or skin that needs gentle toning and antioxidant support.
